Afghan-born fast bowler Zainullah Ihsan earned his first call-up and adds pace to the attack.
Scotland confirmed their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Wednesday, with Richie Berrington set to lead the side under newly appointed head coach Owen Dawkins. The tournament will take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, marking Scotland’s seventh appearance on the global stage.
The team secured its place after Bangladesh pulled out of the World Cup matches in India, citing security concerns amid political tensions with New Delhi. Scotland, who first featured in the inaugural edition in 2007, now aim to make a strong impression with a mix of seasoned players and fresh talent.
Afghan-born fast bowler Zainullah Ihsan earned his first call-up and adds pace to the attack. Former New Zealand international Tom Bruce, 34, also joined the squad, bringing valuable batting experience after playing 17 T20 Internationals for the Black Caps before switching allegiance.
The squad includes: Richie Berrington (captain), Tom Bruce, Matthew Cross, Bradley Currie, Oliver Davidson, Chris Greaves, Zainullah Ihsan, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt, and Bradley Wheal.
Travelling reserves are Jasper Davidson and Jack Jarvis, while Mackenzie Jones, Chris McBride, and Charlie Tear have been named as non-travelling reserves.
With a blend of experienced campaigners and promising newcomers, Scotland will look to challenge the world’s best and leave a mark in the fast-paced format.
