WhatsApp has introduced a new security feature called Strict Account Settings that strengthens protection against cyber threats. The company designed this update to shield users from risks such as unauthorized access and malicious activity.

In its official blog, WhatsApp emphasized its commitment to privacy. The platform stated that everyone deserves private conversations online just as they do in person. It highlighted that some users, including journalists and public figures, face rare yet highly sophisticated cyber attacks and need stronger safeguards.

Strict Account Settings lock certain options to the most restrictive level. The feature limits how the app functions in specific ways, such as blocking attachments and media from people outside a user’s contacts.

Users can activate the feature by navigating to Settings, selecting Privacy, and then choosing Advanced. WhatsApp confirmed that the rollout will continue gradually over the coming weeks.

The company also revealed that it now uses the programming language Rust behind the scenes. This technology helps secure photos, videos, and messages against spyware, giving users more confidence when sharing and chatting.
